Might the league consider, especially for 7-8 year old machine pitch, to play with the rules consistent with other ball clubs in Louisville? The Beechmont talent is well balanced. I have always been impressed with the coaches and staff, who dedicate hours and hours of their time to teach our youngsters baseball. However the rules at Beechmont, differed so much from regular league play to other leagues, that during All-Star Tournament it became clearly evident that are kids were ill-prepared to compete.
We have been trying to get more players for ALL the leagues. We could really use your help in doing this. Have you tried to get your friends to register ?
We can hold about 100 more kids in your age group. Any ideas ?
I’ve noticed the lack of participation within many of the age groups and know of a few kids that played in previous years that their parents couldn’t afford the costs associated with baseball. Is there any way to set up (in advance) for the kids to attempt to sell their tickets to help reduce the impact on some of the financially needy parents? It’d seem liek this could be a win-win for some of the locals in the area and for the league.
We never prevent anyone from playing because they are unable to pay. We are a not for profit organization 501(3)c. We look at each case indivdually and take into considering alot of factors.
At the time of registration, we don’t require payment. A parent is free to do as you suggest and sell the tickets and then give the proceeds to us. All they have to do is ask.
We really are more interested in providing a safe place to kids to play and at the same time pay our bills. We would also consider having parents contribute their time and talent for a reduced registration.
Have it mandatory for ALL players show for tryouts. So that some coaches can’t stack their team by telling players they want to not show up for tryouts. If they can’t show up for the tryouts they should not be able to be drafted untill the end. It just makes the league look bad and people are going to take their kids elsewhere.
I agree with Kim V.. My sons played on the 8 year old all-star team last year. We were not competitive with some of the other teams not because of lack of talent, but because our kids had not bunted or stole bases as the all star rules regulated. Therefore, the other teams had the upper hand when playing our team. As a parent it was very frustrating to watch and the boys became very discouraged.
On a positive note my sons our playing their third year at Beechmont and my husband and I have been grateful for the excellent coaches who have volunteered their time. Most notably Coach Buddy Dunn and Coach Kenny Janes.

Is there any way to have an accurate standing, so we can keep up with everyone’s Wins and Losses?

I agree that is how it should be … If a player does not show up for tryouts, they should not be draftable.
